Dallas police reported this Friday the arrest of a 24-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of two emperor tamarin monkeys from the zoo in the Texas city.

The suspect, Davion Irvin, was located Thursday at the Dallas Aquarium, near the animal exhibits, according to police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman.

As officers approached, the young man boarded a Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) train but was able to be apprehended that night in the 1400 block of Pacific Avenue.

The zoo reported on Monday the theft of the two monkeys, named Bella and Finn, who were found the next day unharmed in an empty house in the nearby town of Lancaster thanks to clues received by the police.

Irvin has been charged with six counts of cruelty to animals, according to the police spokeswoman, and was set on $25,000 bail.

The police statement did not link the theft of the monkeys to the brief disappearance in January of a leopard at the same zoo.

The exotic cat, named Nova, escaped when someone intentionally ripped a hole in his enclosure, according to authorities.

Someone had made a similar cut in the langur monkey habitat, according to police.

Nova's brief escape forced the zoo to be closed on January 13 for the search.

Nova was found unharmed a short distance away.
