The American government announced yesterday (Thursday) that the country has been tracking a suspected Chinese spy balloon that was located over Montana in the western United States in recent days.
A senior official at the US Department of Defense said that in Washington the balloon was being followed from the moment it entered US airspace, also by observations of manned aircraft. "Obviously the purpose of the balloon is for surveillance," he added. The possibility of shooting down the balloon was also considered, sources said. in the army, but in the end it was disqualified due to the high safety risk.
Following the United States' statement, Canada announced another suspicious balloon in the sky of the neighboring country.
"The movements of the balloon are being monitored. Canadians are safe and Canada is taking steps to ensure the security of its airspace," said a statement issued by the country.

Just yesterday they announced in a joint statement that the United States will get access to military bases in the Philippines as part of the attempt to prevent Chinese measures against Taiwan.
China said in response that "this is a step that escalates tensions in the region and endangers regional peace and stability. Countries in the region should remain vigilant and not let the United States take advantage of them."
