Gary Glitter, a former British pop star, sentenced in 2015 to sixteen years in prison for sexual violence against three minors, was released from prison on Friday.
The 79-year-old ex-singer, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was convicted in 2015 of attempted rape, four indecent assaults and having sex with a minor.
He was released Friday, February 3 from Portland prison in Dorset (southern England), after eight years in prison, according to the British press agency PA.

The singer was at the height of his glory when he tackled these minors.
The former '

' star, who had been branded by police as a '
recidivist sexual predator
', had assaulted two young girls aged 12 and 13 by luring them into his dressing room and isolating them from their mothers.
The youngest of the victims was under 10 when he tried to rape her in 1975. Glitter, "

" in English, was arrested on October 28, 2012 in London, when the pedophilia scandals involving old glories of show biz were multiplying in the United Kingdom.

He had already been arrested in 1997 and sentenced to four months in prison for downloading child pornography onto his computer.
Fleeing the press, he took refuge in Cambodia from where he was expelled in 2002 on charges of pedophilia.
He was then sentenced in 2006 to three years in prison in Vietnam for lewd acts on two minors.
After serving a sentence of two years and nine months, he returned to the United Kingdom in 2008. Gary Glitter had his heyday in the 1970s, notably with his title "
