During an interview broadcast on BFMTV, the former Prime Minister confided in this autoimmune disease responsible for his brutal hair loss.

“I have what is called alopecia”, reveals Édouard Philippe during a television interview broadcast this Thursday, February 2 on BFMTV.

While the journalist Bruce Toussaint had just asked him for permission to ask him certain questions about his physical appearance, the mayor of Le Havre agreed to confide in his sudden "loss of hair".

“This is what happens to me.

I lost my eyebrows and I don't think they will come back.

My beard has turned white, it falls a little.

My hair is falling too.

The mustache is gone too.

I don't know if it will come back but it would surprise me," he says, adding that it is "neither painful, nor dangerous, nor contagious, nor serious".

A stressful life

The former Prime Minister claims not to have precisely identified the origin of this pathology, but agrees with his hypothesis.

“Maybe it's the stress.

Do I have a stressful life?

Yes, I confirm it to you, ”he continues.

Indeed, stress is one of the main causes of this autoimmune disease.

Alopecia can also occur after a significant event such as surgery or childbirth, or even following a trauma.

In consultation, doctors always ask their patients what they experienced before noticing their hair loss.

"It's easy for me"

In addition, Édouard Philippe considers himself “lucky” not to have suffered from his hair condition before his fifties.

"Losing your hair at 52 is not an issue," he says, comparing himself to 15-year-old teenagers who are going through the same thing as him.

“It's easy for me, I'm lucky.

For her or for him, it's a whole different story, a whole different way of seeing the way others see themselves, ”he supposes.

Acknowledging that his physical transformation may raise questions among some “curious” French people, Édouard Philippe nevertheless admits that he would have “hoped that it was not a subject”.

And to conclude: "Once again it's a story of hair."
