Without making the slightest mention of the controversy over the 'law of only yes is yes', the president has presented the PSOE candidate for mayor of Madrid along with seven ministers

In the middle of a strong internal tension of his Government due to the reform plans of the

law of the only yes is yes

, Pedro Sánchez has avoided any allusion to this matter this Saturday to focus on vindicating his economic policy and confronting it with that of the PP.

The president has participated in a rally in Madrid to present the minister and candidate for mayor of the capital, Reyes Maroto, to the socialist militancy.

During the event, Sánchez has vindicated the management of his Executive in the face of a succession of calamities that have occurred in recent years —the pandemic, the volcanic eruption in La Palma, the economic consequences of the war in Ukraine— and has confronted it with the management that did the PP of the 2008 crisis. "While others rescued bankrupt banks and imported cuts to the welfare state, now we export solutions to Europe as the Iberian exception", he said,

in allusion to the limitation of the price of the gas used in the production of electricity, to mitigate the rise in prices.

Seven ministers have covered Maroto in the act.

The comparison between these two economic policies —the way in which the Government of Mariano Rajoy faced the great recession of 2008 and that of the Executive of Sánchez in the face of the current crisis— will be constant during the electoral pre-campaign of the municipal and regional elections on May 28 , which unofficially began weeks ago.

"In 2013 Spain unemployment was 26%, the rate of young unemployed was above 50%, many had emigrated... Now, unemployment is still the highest in the EU [12.6%], but it is half! the one they left us!", the president asserted.

"This government has imposed a tax on large financial companies while raising the minimum wage another 8% and revaluing pensions by 8.5%: this is the difference with the PP", Sánchez stressed in a week in which Spanish banks which are listed on the stock exchange reported joint profits of almost 21,000 million euros in 2022, 25% more than the previous year.

In his speech, eminently economic, the leader of the PSOE has stressed that the PP has spent two years proclaiming the economic apocalypse and, nevertheless, Spain has grown at 5.5%.

“Of course we face problems, but Spain advances.

What has no remedy is this opposition that has changed its facade, but that inside remains the same or worse.

Management in times of crisis is the credential with which Maroto - who still holds the portfolio of Minister of Industry - is running as a candidate in the capital of Spain.

The challenge she faces is enormous: to relaunch the PSOE, which in 2019 sank as the fourth force, in one of the great bastions of the right and where the Socialists have not held the mayoralty since 1989. “You have this mayor here.

I can be, we are going to win!

For that I need you: the entire force of socialism has to go to vote on May 28”, Maroto urged during the act, which was attended by some 1,500 militants and supporters of the PSOE.

The candidate has been supported by seven ministers: Vice Presidents Nadia Calviño (Economy) and Teresa Ribera (Ecological Transition), Félix Bolaños (Presidency), Fernando Grande-Marlaska (Interior), José Manuel Albares (Exterior),

Margarita Robles (Defense) and Pilar Llop (Justice).

The majority of the 60 mayors that the PSOE has in the Community of Madrid have also attended.

“Reyes Maroto is an example of management, of solvency.

It is the future and a strong commitment to Madrid.

Let them ask in Palencia, where he saved the cookie factories while PP and Vox were more concerned with cutting women's rights, ”said Juan Lobato, general secretary of the Madrid PSOE and regional candidate.

Sánchez added: “On behalf of the entire Government, I have to tell you that we are going to miss you very much.

You have been one of the best Ministers of Industry, Commerce and Tourism”.
