A memorandum of the Security Service Law for the placement of military veterans in the Israel Police and in the prison service will be submitted to the Knesset table tomorrow (Sunday).

According to the law, the placement of hundreds of servicemen and women in prisons will be terminated immediately and without delay within six months.

This is in contrast to the position of the previous Minister of Defense Benny Gantz who thought that it was correct to divide the reduction of the manpower of the soldiers over three years in order to allow the prison service to prepare for it in terms of recruiting and training personnel.

Security officials said this evening that the new decision, pushed by Minister Itamar Ben Gabir, forces the Shevast to prepare for a reality in which there will be a serious gap in manpower, despite the security challenges and the changes in the security system with an emphasis on the conditions of incarceration of the security prisoners. They also added that "the pressure is not It came not from the IDF but from the Ministry of National Security."

During the month of August 2022, under the direction of the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Internal Security, an inter-ministerial team was established to examine the continued placement of soldiers on mandatory service in the Shavas. , in the "Gilboa" prison, against female prison guards who served there as part of mandatory service.

The inter-ministerial team finished its work and submitted its conclusions to the Minister of Defense and the Minister of National Security, on December 8, 2022. In its recommendations, the team stated that in a world without resource and budgetary limitations, it was correct that the task of incarcerating the security prisoners would be carried out "end to end" by permanent guards .

Accordingly, the team recommended the extension of the curfew for a limited period, during which staff work would take place that would allow the gradual withdrawal of the conscripts from service in the Security Service and their replacement by permanent prison guards

. only, until August 15, 2023, during which the Ministry of National Security will act to convert the standards of conscripts into those of permanent guards. Also, with regard to the placement of conscripts in the police, the temporary order will be extended by approximately three years, until December 31, 2025 under a section of "Security need".
