The City of Paris has made good resolutions for 2023. The renovation of Place de la Concorde is at the top of its list, after having been postponed for a long time.
The first scaffolding appeared there last week.
Abandoned for too long, the large esplanade, both historic and motorway, on the borders of the Tuileries Gardens and the Champs-Élysées, is going to get a makeover.
Finally, sigh Parisians and tourists: fountains with random watering, crumbled statues, abandoned sentry boxes, rostral columns attacked by rust, lampposts with broken or even missing windows, broken pavement, missing balustrades... The landscape offered by this vast space in the heart of the capital had become deplorable.
But it will take time to restore the Concorde, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to a look worthy of its rank.
