The United States
shot down on Saturday the alleged Chinese spy balloon
that was flying over its territory.
This was reported by the authorities, who specified that it was collapsed off the coast of North Carolina.
The object
was struck after it passed through sensitive US military installations
and became the latest focus of tension between Washington and Beijing.
After being collapsed, the US government said that an operation was launched in the territorial waters of the United States in the Atlantic Ocean to recover the debris of the balloon, which was flying at an altitude of 18,300 meters.
As reported, it was estimated to be the size of three school buses.
The moment was captured by television cameras that showed a small explosion, followed by the descent of the balloon into the water.
Before the operation to bring it down was completed, President Joe Biden had been consulted about the appearance of the balloon.
"We'll take care of that,"
the president replied.
