The IDF conducted an investigation this evening (Sunday) following the false alarms that were activated in the past day, in the area surrounding Gaza, Sderot and Kiryat Shmona. According to the investigation, the alerts that were activated this evening in the north and south were false alarms. The
IDF stated that the alert that was activated in the south this evening "was activated unnecessarily ".
Regarding the alarm in Kiryat Shmona, the army announced that it "came from a technical error".
Yesterday, a loud explosion was heard in Ofet and Sderot, without the red color warning being activated.
The IDF spokesman issued a statement, according to which "a hostile aircraft was intercepted in the skies of the Gaza Strip", but it eventually turned out that it was apparently a misidentification, and it was a flock of birds that had launched an Iron Dome missile at it. A military official said that "the activation of the alarm tonight - is wrong.
Operator fault to be investigated.
There were projectiles but nothing that could endanger or require the use of red paint.
It also probably stems from oversensitivity in the air defense systems and the rear."
The IDF issued a statement after the investigation, which stated that "the interception was carried out in accordance with the rules and procedures, and with correct operational judgment.
In light of different operational conditions and even after the investigation, it is not possible to determine with certainty whether there was an actual aerial target."
