Tragedy in Chile: 23 people were killed in an unprecedented wave of fires in the South American country when thousands were evacuated from their homes and hundreds were injured.
Interior Minister Carolina Toha confirmed that 23 people died in the fire and 554 needed medical treatment, with 16 of them seriously injured.
Close to two thousand people were evacuated from their homes as of this hour.
The Minister of the Interior emphasized that in 28 different fires, a total forest area similar to that burned in the country in a year, in less than two days, was destroyed.
Sheharan claimed that the reason for the wave of fires is the cationic temperatures that Chile has experienced in recent weeks.
"The thermometer has recently reached levels of heat that we have never seen," Toha said.
During the weekend it was announced that Argentina sent hundreds of firefighters and several firefighting planes to Chile in order to try and stop the wave of fires that mainly affected forests in the south-central part of the country.
