Robbery in the heart of Tel Aviv:

an 85-year-old man withdrew thousands of shekels from an ATM in south Tel Aviv.

Multa Gathon, 33 years old from Kiryat Gat followed him and robbed him, according to the indictment filed against him today (Sunday) with a request for detention until the end of the proceedings.

In the application, it was stated that Gethon has ten previous convictions, which include convictions for threatening assault and theft.

According to the indictment, the elderly man arrived about a week ago at noon, at the ATM on Levinsky Street in Tel Aviv and withdrew NIS 5,300, which he put in his pocket, where he kept an additional NIS 1,000 and went to a bus stop.

When he realized that the bus stop was cancelled, he took all the money out of his pocket to pay the taxi.

At this point, Gethon noticed the complainant sitting at the station and holding the money in his hands.

Or then, advanced towards him and tried to pull the money he was holding out of his hands.

The complainant resisted him but the accused used force and managed to grab the money from the hands of the complainant, knocking the elderly man to the ground.

In the request for detention until the end of the proceedings, it was stated that despite the videos documenting the incident, Gethon denies that he robbed the money but adds that he may have committed the act but was under the influence of drugs and does not remember.

It is also claimed that only about a year ago, he was sentenced to 8 months in prison and, likewise, two legal proceedings are pending against him, also for theft offenses.

"From the defendant's actions, a high level of dangerousness can be seen when he chose to rob an elderly man who is unable to resist his actions...Also, his burdensome criminal record indicates a lack of fear of the law and a real danger to public safety," the arrest request states.
