In addition to the position of speaker of the Knesset, Weiss served as Israel's ambassador to Poland and worked to commemorate the Holocaust in his role as chairman of the Yad Vashem Council.

At this time, hundreds of people are accompanying Professor Shabach Weiss, the former Speaker of the Knesset, on his last journey. The funeral is attended by President Yitzhak Herzog, President of the Hellion Court Esther Hayut, former President Robbie Rivlin, former Defense Minister Benny Gantz, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Justice Tzipi Livni , former Speaker of the Knesset Miki Levy and other public figures.

Weiss passed away last Friday, he left behind two children and a granddaughter.

Shevah Weiss - one of the last survivors of the Holocaust was born in Boryslav, Poland (today in the Lviv region of Ukraine).

He survived the holocaust with his family members when they were hidden by two Hasidic Olam nations.

After the war, his family members migrated and finally immigrated to Israel in 1947.

Weiss served in the army and worked as an interviewer, among other things he also worked for Kol Israel.

State President Yitzhak Herzog last night paid tribute to the former speaker of the Knesset and said: "I mourn the death of Shevah Weiss, the former speaker of the Knesset. A Holocaust survivor who became a world-renowned professor, chairman of the Yad Vashem Council, Israel's ambassador to Poland and loyalist of the labor movement. Love his people and his country which he represented with genius. My condolences to his family and loved ones. May his memory be blessed."

One of the prominent personalities who parted ways with Weiss is the current president of Poland, Andrzej Duda, who talked about Weiss' important role in strengthening relations between the countries.

"It was with great sadness that I received the news of Weiss's death. A wonderful man, a Jew, an Israeli patriot who loved and respected Poland. He was a knight of the Order of the White Eagle. This is a great loss for us and for Poland-Israel relations," tweeted the president.
