Burkina Faso has asked France to withdraw its special forces engaged in the fight against jihadism in the Sahel.
This withdrawal is part of a trend of withdrawal of the former colonial power in Africa while Russia through the Wagner group leads an ideological offensive on the continent to complete its military establishment.

After the Central African Republic and Mali in 2022, the French army leaves Burkina-Faso, chased everywhere by Wagner and the local authorities.
Like the Malian junta, the putschists in Burkina, who fear being overthrown by the army, are said to have called in Russian mercenaries to ensure their personal safety.
In the three capitals, Russian flags are flying on official buildings and anti-
French sentiment is igniting.
For several years, Wagner's Russian mercenaries have also been established in Libya, alongside Marshal Haftar.
