The country is affected by an air depression that extends in all layers of the atmosphere, accompanied by a cold and wet air mass and accompanied by heavy rainfall in most areas and snow on mountain heights, according to the head of the Central Weather Forecasting Center in Damascus, Shadi Gawish.
Jawish confirmed to SANA's reporter that the peak of the depression, which began its effectiveness last night in the coastal areas and extended to the rest of the regions, will be today, night and tomorrow, as most areas will witness heavy rain and snow on mountain heights that exceed 1,000 meters above sea level.
Gawish expected that precipitation mixed with snow would decrease on Monday night and Tuesday morning in some internal areas that exceed 800 meters, and the northern countryside of Latakia, Aleppo, and al-Jazeera, “Al-Hasakah and Qamishli,” are witnessing snowfalls at an altitude of 400 or 500 meters above sea level.
Jawish warned of the strong wind speed, which is expected to exceed 90 to 100 kilometers per hour, especially today at night and tomorrow during the day in the western and southern regions. As for the rest of the regions, the winds will be in the form of gusts of medium intensity.
The effectiveness of the depression gradually weakens on Tuesday during the day, according to Jawish, pointing out that the temperatures during the two days that follow the depression will witness a significant and tangible decrease during the day and very cold and reach below zero in most areas, as a result of the cold air and the significantly low temperature, which warns of the formation of Ice and frost during the late night and early morning hours.
