The Colombian Air Force assured on Saturday night that it has been following, since Friday, the path of a strange balloon-shaped object.
Some citizens in the north of the country, in cities like Valledupar and Cartagena, had shared messages on their social networks in which they claimed to see a white figure in the sky, similar to a white balloon, like the one that had been detected in the United States for three days. before.
In a statement, the Air Force confirmed that it detected the same object on February 3.
“The National Air Defense System detected an object over 55,000 feet high, which entered Colombian airspace in the northern sector of the country, moving at an average speed of 25 knots, identifying characteristics similar to those of a globe," the statement said.
The defense system tracked the object "until it left the airspace."
At this time, they inform the public, they consider that the object "did not represent a threat to national security and defense, as well as air safety."

The Air Force, however, says it is carrying out all the pertinent investigations, with different countries, to establish where this object could have reached Colombian airspace from.
The news comes a day after the Pentagon announced Friday that it had detected a second Chinese balloon.
The first, located on US territory and which the Biden government considered a "violation of sovereignty", was shot down this Saturday.
The second balloon is flying over Latin America and also performs surveillance functions, according to a press release from Defense Department spokesman General Patrick Ryder.
“We see information about a balloon flying over Latin America.
We consider this to be another Chinese surveillance balloon," the statement said.
However, the Pentagon did not specify where this second balloon would be.
