Two skiers have died after leaving a skating rink in the canton of Graubünden in southeastern Switzerland, according to the district police.
"A third skier from the group was swept away by the avalanche that fell over the skiers, but he managed to survive," the Swiss police said in a statement to AFP, quoting the Swiss police, noting that the two dead were a 65-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man.
The police pointed out that a large amount of snow flooded the two victims, while the rescue personnel monitored their deaths, and the rescue operation had to be stopped due to poor visibility and bad weather, and then it was resumed.
Five people died as a result of avalanches in Austria and Switzerland, prompting officials in the two countries to warn yesterday of the dangers posed by the unstable snow cover.
