In the 20th arrondissement of Paris, a few steps from the Père Lachaise cemetery, residents have launched a petition against the installation

A vast corner room lined with torn posters and large graffiti, a few steps from the Père Lachaise cemetery, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris: it is here that a future restaurant of the Burger King chain should be established.

Fast food should take up residence on Place Martin Nadaud, a multicolored median where families can relax even in the depths of winter.

"It's a space that would be great for lots of other things," laments Géraldine, who lives in the building.

This resident and a few neighbors have just launched a collective to fight against the opening of this future Burger King.

“It's complicated to do worse than a Burger King,” adds Pierre, who also lives in this five-storey red brick building.

The locals say “no”

According to these residents, this restaurant would only act a little more the disappearance of small independent shops in the neighborhood, while encouraging "junk food" and increasing the nuisance.

“This place is more family-oriented, there are children playing all the time.

The presence of a Burger King will lead to the presence of scooters, delivery bikes,” apprehends Pierre.

Concerns shared by Éric Pliez, the mayor (Paris en Commun) of the 20th arrondissement of Paris.

The city councilor undertakes to try to convince the project leader to give up the opening of this fast food, even if he does not have the necessary prerogatives to prevent it.
