After the earthquake that shook Turkey: President Yitzhak Herzog spoke today (Monday) with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and asked to strengthen him and the entire Turkish people following the disaster of the severe earthquake that struck Turkey and the region during the night.

The President of the State conveyed his condolences on behalf of the people of Israel to President Erdoğan and the Turkish people and noted that under the direction of the Prime Minister and the authorized officials, a large and well-equipped rescue mission from the State of Israel will go to the epicenter of the disaster.

He also added that at the event he attended today, he spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu and opposition leader Lapid and they concluded that we in Israel are united in our desire to help Turkey as much as necessary.

The President of Turkey thanked the President of the country for the condolences and the rescue mission, and emphasized that the aid will be of great help to the many forces who must have been working for many hours.

He also emphasized that he is grateful for Israel's standing by its friend Turkey, in these difficult times.

In the conversation, the President of Turkey gave the President of the State updated data on the dimensions of the disaster and noted that this is the largest earthquake in the history of the Turkish Republic.

At the end of his speech, Turkish President Erdogan asked to express his deepest condolences to the people of Israel for the attack that happened last week at the Neve Yaakov Synagogue in Jerusalem.

The conversation between the two comes after a devastating and deadly earthquake occurred in southeastern Turkey this morning.

According to reports, at least 1,700 people were killed in Turkey alone.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel will send aid to both Turkey and Syria.

Later in the afternoon, another tremor occurred which brought the number of collapsed buildings to 2,824.
