China stressed that the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the United States severely harms the international political and economic system and the rule of law, noting that Washington has long exercised such long-arm jurisdiction over other countries.
In a statement today, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: The long-arm jurisdiction is in essence an arbitrary judicial practice, practiced by the US government, using the power of US hegemony to impose extraterritorial jurisdiction on entities and individuals of other countries based on its domestic law.
The ministry added that the US sanctions have strained relations between countries and undermined the international system. So far, the long arm of US jurisdiction has reached China, Russia, Iran, Syria, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Cuba and other countries.
The ministry stated that, according to international law, the exercise of the jurisdiction of a country over a person or entity outside territorial borders generally requires that the person or entity or its behavior have a real and sufficient link to that country, yet the United States exercises long-arm jurisdiction on the basis of the (minimum) rule. from the connection), and the application threshold is constantly lowered.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that when the Corona virus was raging around the world, the US government did not hesitate to impose unilateral sanctions on Iran, Syria and other countries, which made it difficult for these countries to obtain much-needed medical supplies to combat the virus.
She pointed out that the long-arm jurisdiction creates and intensifies tensions and conflicts between major countries, and poses a threat to the international security system that was established after World War II.
The ministry concluded by saying: The United States must abandon its illegal unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdictional measures, and truly assume its international responsibilities as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
