”, details a press release from the public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence, Jean-Luc Blachon.
The octogenarians were found dead on Wednesday February 1 at their home by the man's grandson, worried about not having any news.
Investigators had established that the couple had been the victim of a very violent attack and that the attacker had searched several rooms of the house before leaving the scene.

The suspect explained to the police that he knew the couple's home after carrying out work there a few months earlier.

He was drunk and under the influence of narcotics, consumed throughout the day, when he decided to walk to their home on January 31 in the early evening to commit a burglary, thinking he could solve his financial problems,
”says the prosecutor’s press release.
Once in the house, the 43-year-old man was surprised by the arrival of the owner in the garage.

He immediately hit him with a hammer found on the spot.
He then went to another room and repeatedly fatally struck the woman with the same weapon
,” the statement continued.
The man then searched the rooms of the house and stole cash, objects and means of payment before leaving the premises.
Facing the investigators, the suspect also explained that he had "
murderous impulses
" for several months.
The 43-year-old man will be brought this Monday, February 6, before the public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence in order to be presented to the investigating judge seized of facts of "
theft preceded and accompanied by violence resulting in the death
".
