At the end of the internship procedure, Jessie is expected to join the four-guard unit at the Mishkan - who help thwart threats and support the security of the compound. She was added to the unit just before the Knesset's 74th birthday, after the unit's commander received information about her unusual abilities. "As a house dog, she would have suffered"

The dog Jessie was only two months old, a particularly playful puppy, when Commander Yair Bashari, the commander of the Knesset's canine unit, met her - and fell in love at first sight.

Just before the Knesset's 74th birthday began today (Monday), Bashari received information about a special dog from the settlement of Jadeida Makr, who might be able to be a powerful force for his unit.

"In the first weeks of her life, she managed to expend energy in an amount that destroyed every good part of the house," he said.

Inspector Bashari collected the little puppy for a trial period at his home and discovered a dog with exceptional qualities.

"She has incredible abilities that are suitable for an outstanding working dog. She is developed, has a crazy following instinct. She gives two hundred percent of herself. As a house dog, she would surely suffer and even waste away. This is a dog as fast as the wind."

Beshari gave her the name Jessie and began to put her through a process of puppy education, in which she is exposed to population concentrations, vehicle traffic, and at the same time weaned her from the phenomena of biting and house destruction, typical of puppies.

Now she already knows how to thoroughly scan vehicles and detect explosives.

In a few months, Jessie is expected to finish the operational training procedure and join the four-guard unit at the Knesset.

Knesset officer Yuval Chen said: "Jessie the dog is an additional reinforcement for the canine unit in particular and the Knesset guard in general. The four guards are a significant part of Knesset security and are a practical expression of the phrase 'dogs guarding democracy'."
