Five former rugby players are sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of Fernando Báez Sosa in Argentina; three others received a sentence of 15 years in prison

Five of the eight former rugby players were sentenced this Monday to life imprisonment for the crime of Fernando Báez Sosa, which occurred in January 2020 in Argentina. The other three defendants were accused of being secondary participants in the act and received a sentence of 15 years in prison.

Five of the eight former rugby players were sentenced this Monday to life imprisonment for the crime of Fernando Báez Sosa, which occurred in January 2020 in the town of Villa Gesell, on the coast of the province of Buenos Aires, in Argentina.

The other three defendants were accused of being secondary participants in the act and received a sentence of 15 years in prison.

According to the sentence that was announced by the Oral Criminal Court No. 1 of Dolores, Máximo Thomsen, Ciro Pertossi, Enzo Comelli, Matías Benicelli and Luciano Pertossi were accused of the crime of "doubly aggravated homicide for the premeditated contest by two or more people and treachery in an ideal competition for minor injuries", for which they were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Ayrton Viollaz, Blas Cinalli and Lucas Pertossi must serve 15 years in prison for being accused as secondary participants in the crime.

Fernando Báez Sosa, a young law student, died in the early morning of January 18, 2020 as he was leaving a dance venue in the seaside resort of Villa Gesell, located 380 km from Buenos Aires.

The young man died as a result of the attack with punches and kicks that he received from a gang of several rugby players.

According to the autopsy, the young man died of "cranial trauma."

“They beat him a lot, said the victim's mother, Graciela Sosa, after the young man's death.

"They beat him until they couldn't find him anymore, until they killed him."
