Geretsrieder indoor pool could be a role model - local politicians find out about the project in the neighboring district

While the last remnants of the old bathing park are disappearing in Bad Wiessee, the communities around the lake continue to struggle about the future of communal swimming.

While the last remnants of the old bathing park are disappearing in Bad Wiessee, the communities around the lake continue to struggle about the future of communal swimming.

Tegernseer Tal/Geretsried -

Since Bad Wiessee made it clear in the summer of 2022 that it could not build a new swimming pool alone, but only in cooperation with the other valley municipalities (we reported), there have been a number of meetings.

An intercommunal working group (WG) was founded.

The members of the AG, including all five valley mayors and members of the respective municipal councils and the Tegernsee city council, now visited the new indoor swimming pool in Geretsried (Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district).

There, the realization of an intermunicipal indoor swimming pool - as would also be conceivable at Tegernsee - has already been achieved.

"Swim more together!" Under this motto, the municipalities of Dietramszell, Egling, Eurasburg, Icking, Königsdorf, Münsing, the city of Wolfratshausen and the Tölz district have joined forces and built the pool.

The city of Geretsried describes it as a "lighthouse project".

The swimming pool opened during the corona pandemic, and 2022 was the first full year of operation for the facility.

Could the Geretsrieder model be a role model for the planned swimming pool at Tegernsee?

According to the press release from the city of Geretsried, the valley representatives first exchanged views with the responsible departments and representatives of the Geretsried public utility company in the town hall, after which the delegation was given a tour of the pool.

Wiessee's mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) summarizes the most important finding in a few words: "It can be done in the community."

In fact, the indoor swimming pool in Geretsried corresponds roughly to what the municipalities at Tegernsee would also like.

"The main focus is on the clubs and schools," says Kühn about the Geretsrieder Bad.

In addition to a swimming pool that is ideal for training, there is also a teaching and non-swimmer pool, a pool with a diving tower and a paddling pool for the youngest visitors.

As is well known, the Tegernsee Valley has long since said goodbye to bathing with wellness frills for cost reasons, and instead wants to concentrate purely on swimming.

The visit to Geretsried was also about bringing the representatives of all valley communities up to the same level of knowledge, explains Kühn.

Bad Wiessee, which has been dealing with the topic for a long time, has had a small knowledge advantage here so far.

"But we want to discuss at eye level and on an equal footing," the Wiesse town hall chief makes clear.

Kühn has a "good feeling" after the most recent round of talks, as he says.

The desire to create a bathroom is evident in everyone involved.

And what are the next steps for the working group?

Here Kühn remains vague: "We will meet again," he simply says.
