President Bashar al-Assad received this afternoon a phone call from the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
During the call on his behalf and on behalf of the Russian people, President Putin offered condolences to the victims of the devastating earthquake, and assured his sovereignty that Russia is ready to stand by the Syrian people in their ordeal, and that the Russian government decided to send rescue teams and urgent aid in order to support the Syrian government's efforts to overcome the effects of this disaster.
President al-Assad thanked the Russian leadership for this initiative, considering that this position on the Russian Federation reflects the depth of the relations between the two countries and peoples, and is an extension of all that Russia provided to Syria in their joint war on terrorism.
