SNCF tightens its exchange and cancellation conditions from February 7

2023-02-06T06:13:43.593Z

As of tomorrow, the penalties in the event of modification of his train ticket will increase from 15 to 19 € and will now apply to D-6 instead of D-3.

This is one of the measures of the "tariff shield" put in place by the SNCF to deal with inflation and soaring energy prices.

If, at the height of the health crisis, the company offered maximum flexibility to all travelers, the company is gradually returning to more rigidity.

From Tuesday 7 February, TGV inOui and Intercités tickets can be exchanged and canceled free of charge up to and including 6 days before the departure date, compared to 3 days currently.

Less than 6 days before departure, the penalty goes from 15 to 19 €.

On the other hand, no change at Ouigo: the modification costs are always 10 € and cancellation remains impossible.

No change either for holders of Business Première tickets who continue to benefit from total flexibility.

The TGV more expensive by 5% on average

This tightening of after-sales conditions, announced in November 2022, also aims to put an end to a trend of reserving several tickets on several dates in order to benefit from the best prices, then canceling them at the last moment.

A shortfall for the SNCF, the canceled places not necessarily being resold.

These new conditions are accompanied by an increase in prices.

On January 10, the average price of mainline train tickets (TGV inOui and Intercités) increased by 5%.

An increase that affects business customers more than leisure travelers.

The cap on the price of TGV inOui tickets (at 39, 59 or 79 € depending on the distance) for holders of an Avantage card is maintained.

The SNCF has just put TGV inOui and Intercités tickets on sale until May 31, a period which covers the spring school holidays and the (many) May weekends.
