The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority announced that the number of victims of the earthquake that struck the south of the country at dawn today has risen to 1121.
And Agence France-Presse quoted the administration as saying in a statement: The strong earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale, injured more than 6,000 people, while hundreds of buildings were destroyed in a number of cities and villages in southern Turkey, noting that another earthquake had a magnitude of 7.5. degrees, followed the first earthquake, while more than 120 aftershocks were recorded today in the vicinity of the epicenter.
The administration indicated that rescue efforts are still continuing to extract those trapped under the rubble, while the death toll is likely to rise in the coming hours and days.
