Two children kidnapped a year ago in Missouri were found last Wednesday in a supermarket in Florida, according to the High Springs police (76 miles southwest of Jacksonville).

The children, who had been missing since March 15, 2022, were located Wednesday at a Winn-Dixie facility with their mother, Kristi Nicole Gilley, who did not have custody, according to police.

The 36-year-old woman was arrested on an active kidnapping warrant in Clay County, Missouri, she added.

Officers were able to locate the two children after performing a routine license plate check on Gilley's vehicle, which indicated that its owner was a runaway, according to police.

The three were identified, despite having camouflaged their identities, according to the police, who did not explain how they did it.

The children were turned over to the Florida Department of Family Services and will be reunited with their family, police said.
