In response to the legal reform planned by Justice Minister Levin, Prof. Uriel Reichman addressed him with harsh words: "The threat to the Supreme Court's ability to overturn laws that infringe on the fundamental freedoms of citizens creates a world of alienation between the government and citizens" • "Unbridled majority rule turns us all from citizens to subjects"

"I'm addressing the Minister of Justice Yariv Levin from above.

The legal reform became a real revolution.

The actual threat of the Supreme Court's ability to overturn laws that infringe on the basic freedoms of the citizens of the country has created a world of alienation between the government in Israel and the citizens of the country," Prof. Uriel Reichman - the president, founder and chairman of the board of directors of Reichman University - opened his remarks with these harsh words. At the conference "Governance Challenges in Israel - Between Legislation and Enforcement" of the Ariel Sharon Chair for National Leadership and Military Thought held at Reichman University.

Prof. Reichman warns: "Neutralizing the Supreme Court is the end of the legitimacy of the government"

Prof. Reichman: "It is clear to you that with the denial of the protection of our rights through the neutralization of the Supreme Court, the legitimacy of the government also ends, and the right to demand that we volunteer for national missions"

"Democracy is not only the rule of the majority - democracy is also the protection of the minority," Reichman went on to say.

"The basic freedoms of the democratic system are for the benefit of all citizens, but they are especially important for the protection of the minority. In the State of Israel, the Supreme Court is the only shield a citizen has against the tyranny of the majority. What you have done has created a feeling of depression in a significant portion of the country's loyal sons and daughters. Majority rule that lacks restraint Turns us all from citizens to subjects. By enacting the passage of overcoming with a coalition majority, you make us powerless and without a guarantee that we will have the same rights as any citizen in the democratic countries of the world."

"The end of the legitimacy of the government"

Prof. Reichman referred to possible bans: "Are you really interested in denying the right to demonstrate, even if it is motivated by political reasons?

Will you allow service providers the right to discriminate between people for religious reasons?

Will you enforce gender segregation?

Will you suddenly decide to prevent various organizations from running in the elections?

How close will we be to banning abortion?

It is clear to you that with the denial of the protection of our rights through the neutralization of the Supreme Court, the legitimacy of the government also ends, and the right to demand that we volunteer for national missions."

The student protest against the legal reform,

Referring to the establishment of a constitution in Israel and the proposal for negotiations, Prof. Reichman said: "In 1988, when I set out on the 'Constitution for Israel' journey, to fulfill the vision belatedly, my students turned to Menachem Begin and asked him about the constitution, and he replied: 'Since then the Constituent Assembly, which has been renamed Without justification to the First Knesset, I argued in our House of Representatives that the first duty of the Constituent Assembly is to give a constitution to the country. I held, and I stand by my opinion, that the need to legislate a constitution for our country has not passed. Instead of emptying the basic law: human dignity and freedom from its content, and denying self-determination of the State of Israel according to the Declaration of Independence, I call on you to stop the attack on the Supreme Court, and to hold a process in which people of different opinions will participate in establishing a constitution for Israel.

"By enacting the clause of overcoming with a coalition majority, you make us powerless and without a guarantee that we will have the same rights as any citizen in the democratic countries of the world"

"I propose to respect the request of the President of the State to stop the rapid legislative procedures. Minister Levin, this is the last moment to stop and try to act together jointly. History will judge severely those who cause this opportunity to be missed."
