Another casualty for Alberto Fernández: Juan Manzur leaves the Cabinet office, although he promised to accompany the President

2023-02-07T22:44:06.871Z

The official made it official that he will return to Tucumán to campaign. There will be no license request. The succession for a key position is opened.

Juan Manzur finished defoliating the daisy

.

The Tucumán governor on leave will resign as head of the National Cabinet in the coming days.

It will not be a request for a license, as they hoped in the Casa Rosada until last week.

In exactly 7 days the campaign will formally begin in Tucumán and three months later Manzur will go to the polls to once again be deputy governor of his province, a

position he held between 2008 and 2015

before becoming the undisputed head of Tucuman Peronism.

Ninety days is precisely the legal period authorized to proselytize.

"

I am the governor's (Osvaldo) Jaldo campaign manager

. Have no doubt, once again I will lead you to victory," Manzur bellowed in Tafi Viejo, during the inauguration of the Los Nogales Transformer Station that he shared with

Alberto Fernández

.

The President endorsed the decision of his future former official.

"

We are going to return Juan (Manzur) to the Tucumans

so that he can work and lead Peronism to victory," the president stated.

The possibility that Manzur would revise his decision was not discussed in the meetings shared by Fernández, Manzur, Jaldo, mayors of Tucuman Peronism and Senator Pablo Yedlin, among others.

For the chief of staff,

his role as coordinating minister

and taking charge of a provincial campaign was incompatible.

His collaborators, days ago, used technical arguments about the viability of a license, but they recognized that the underlying reasons would be political.

The man from Tucumán is leaving because he thinks of this election -and in a hypothetical and resounding victory- as a

first step in the presidential race

in which he has almost nothing to lose.

Yedlin's senator's seat will be freed if he takes over as the first provincial legislator and

Manzur is the deputy in the Upper House

.

His incursions in Greater Buenos Aires have multiplied in recent weeks.

During the act in Tucumán, Manzur and Jaldo supported Fernández, who is not abandoning his re-election plans.

"Whatever you decide, Tucuman Peronism will follow you," said the coordinating minister.

In the environment of the head of Tucuman Peronism, they pointed out that Manzur could become an eventual running mate of the President and they closed the dilemma of whether it would be a license or a resignation.

"For us it was clear," they said.

The relationship between Manzur and Cristina Kirchner has been winding.

"

Cristina's is a finished cycle

," Manzur told this newspaper in 2016. The dynamics of Peronism brought him closer to the vice president that he asked for her arrival at the head of the Cabinet.

He had also been the Minister of Health of the former president and, unlike other officials, he did not suffer setbacks in Justice due to the Qunita Plan.

The President intended to retain Manzur in his position -with a request for leave- so as not to have to argue again with Christianity for a key position in the Government.

Now he must decide who is the eventual replacement for the Tucuman at the same time that Kirchnerism claims to discuss the course of the Government at the polling station - which will open on Thursday, February 16 - to which the president called.

Fernández will now sit at that table with the

apparent support of the man from Tucumán

The empowered deputy chief of staff,

Juan Manuel Olmos,

would have the advantage to move up the government organization chart.

Since he left, he was promoted, after serving as

chief adviser to the President

, he took over the management while Manzur dedicated himself to doing what he likes best: politics.

Olmos's main capital is that he has

a fluid dialogue with the President's main partners

, either from La Cámpora, or with Sergio Massa.

In the Ministry of Economy, in the Production area, he managed to place leaders of his space.

"

He is an octopus

", admits an official who is precisely an admirer of the also attorney of the PJ.

When at the beginning of 2022, from the same Government they made it known that Manzur could step aside, after Fernández kicked him out of decision-making due to his undisguised presidential ambition, they also slipped that his predecessor in office,

Santiago Cafiero

, could replace it.

Appointing the current foreign minister to that strategic position would be

a much more powerful provocation

than the President's recent statements against Wado de Pedro.

The first to know is Cafiero, who privately rejects that option and who -because of his closeness to Fernández- receives much more friendly fire than the one who ever fired at his associates.

La Cámpora and Cristina Kirchner

first put pressure on Cafiero - the president's alter ego - to be a candidate in the 2021 legislatures. Fernández retained him, but ended up giving in after the massive resignations from the Cabinet after the 2021 PASO that he headed Pedro by instruction of CFK.

Before taking charge of the AFI, Agustín Rossi had also sounded like Manzur's eventual successor.

In the environment of the head of Intelligence they do not take notice of an accelerated departure from Manzur.

The former head of Kirchnerismo deputies became a permanent source of consultation for the President in the attempt to vindicate his role as founder of the "first Kirchnerismo", which this year celebrates 2 decades.

Close to the head of the AFI they insist that he "is comfortable in his position."

Jorge Capitanich affirmed that it is no longer possible to suspend the PASO and asked for candidates "to win in the first round"
