Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City/Monday/Mexico City
(CNN) --
The Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC) reported that on Monday it detained a man in possession of weapons and apparently drugs during a routine patrol.
He added that in the operation, carried out in the south of the capital of the country, a firearm was seized without having the corresponding permits, cartridges and "a green herb with the characteristics of marijuana" and "doses with an apparently solid substance cocaine".
He explained that the 61-year-old man was identified as Carlos "N".
According to the National Detention Registry, it is Carlos Caro Quintero.
An SSC source told CNN that he is the brother of Rafael Caro Quintero, who co-founded the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1970s.
The Secretary of City Security, Omar García Harfuch, indicated on his Twitter account that he is "a member of a criminal group that operates in the north of the country."
The authorities have not yet detailed what charges they accuse him of.
Court of Mexico grants definitive suspension of the extradition of Rafael Caro Quintero to the US.
