In the last few weeks, a particularly exciting guest arrived in the Gulf of Eilat - an "Olive Ridley" sea pincer, which has not been recorded in the bay since March 2021. Her arrival is even more exciting when it is discovered that she apparently survived a shark bite - and that she is in good health.

Since it was recently recorded for the first time, a sea turtle has been observed several times feeding on Cassiophae jellyfish on the sea grass mats on the northern beaches of Eilat.
In a supervised dive carried out by the inspector Omri Uzami from the Nature and Parks Authority, he was able to document her on the north coast when she is in good working order, despite the parts she is missing due to the shark bite.

According to Omesi, the hypothesis that the turtle was bitten by a shark is due to a missing part in the back of its body: "It is possible that the bite was at a much earlier stage in its life, and I am happy to see that it is vital and functioning well."
The Nature and Parks Authority stressed that all sea turtles in Israel are classified as protected species, so if you come across one of these - you must avoid touching it, keep a distance from it and give it a significantly larger space when it comes up to breathe above the surface of the water, and of course do not feed it.
