Governmental and local efforts are continuing to remove rubble and search for missing persons in the earthquake-affected sites in Lattakia Governorate.

Engineer Hussein Zengerli, head of the Lattakia City Council, confirmed in a statement to SANA reporter that since the first hours, the city council’s workshops headed to the landslide areas, and the governorate’s mechanisms and engineering companies were distributed with the participation of the private sector, according to a well-studied plan drawn up by the operations room in the province.

Zengerli indicated that there are about 20 collapsed buildings in the city, and the operations of removing rubble, evacuating and searching for missing persons are continuing, with the participation of government and private agencies and civil society.

He added: About 25 people were evacuated yesterday and the search for missing persons is still under construction, in addition to evacuating 70 other people from under the Yemen Roundabout Bridge and transferring them to Al-Wahda and Osama bin Zaid schools.

Zengerli pointed out that support from the Fire Brigade and Civil Defense arrived in the governorates of Quneitra and Damascus countryside, and food aid from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees distributed to the people, in addition to the shelters that were established in different areas of the governorate, and the evacuation of some people and transporting them to them by internal transport buses, noting With the individual initiatives of civilians who opened the doors of their homes and large halls to receive the affected people and provide them with aid.

With regard to the procedures used to deal with cracked buildings, Zengerli indicated that public safety committees have been formed at the city level, about 18 committees from the City Council, the Engineers Syndicate and the General Company for Engineering Studies, to cover all neighborhoods of the city, to detect buildings and take the necessary measures, to ensure the safety of everyone. In addition to receiving citizens' calls, recording their communications, and sending committees to inspect buildings and take the necessary measures.
