The Hama Fire Brigade announced the end of evacuations and recovery of victims trapped under the rubble, more than 15 hours after the start of rescue operations following the earthquake.
The commander of the Hama Fire Brigade, Brigadier General Thaer al-Hassan, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the damage caused by the devastating earthquake is currently being assessed, as detection and investigation operations showed the presence of a number of cracked buildings in the city.
He added: The people whose houses were destroyed or cracked are being evacuated and secured in 5 shelters equipped by the governorate, noting that the largest number of earthquake victims in Hama resulted from the collapse of an 8-storey residential building in the Arbaeen neighborhood, which was inhabited by more than 100 people. 43 bodies were recovered out of 48 in relation to the total number of deaths in the governorate, in addition to 75 injured.
