India expressed its condolences to the Syrian government and people for the victims of the earthquake that occurred at dawn yesterday, resulting in hundreds of victims.
Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Murli Dharan said during his visit to the Syrian embassy in New Delhi today: India is ready to help the afflicted and send urgent humanitarian aid to Syria.
In turn, the Syrian Ambassador to New Delhi, Dr. Bassam Al-Khatib, thanked the Indian government for the quick response, and also thanked the Indian people for their sympathy and standing by the Syrian people in their ordeal.
Al-Khatib stressed the importance of the Indian-Syrian relations, pointing out that this honorable position of the Indian government indicates the depth of bilateral relations and the interdependence between the peoples of the two friendly countries.
