The announced sanctions are disciplinary in nature and are internal to the Memphis police. At least five officers face a parallel criminal investigation into the death of Tire Nichols.

Seven other police officers will face disciplinary action in the wake of the death of Tire Nichols, Memphis city attorney Jessica Sink told CNN's Nick Valencia on Tuesday.

“So far, six officers have been fired.

There are seven more officers expected to receive a statement of charges," Jennifer Sink told CNN.

"The investigation is ongoing.

There could be more," Sink told CNN outside the city council meeting.

Agents will receive an internal charge, or disciplinary, statement, which is a document notifying them of the policy violations that have been identified.

Then there's a process where they're given a hearing and later a written decision is made, Sink told city council.

This action is internal, not criminal.

Sink said the final round of the plea will come this week so the agency can hold administrative hearings next week.

Once it's done, Sink says they'll make all the materials involved public by posting them on a website: all the videos, all the decisions, the entirety of the case file.

“TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Investigation) is still conducting its own investigation.

It is separate and distinct from our administrative disciplinary action.

Our investigation is based on whether a discipline should be applied.

The TBI is conducting a criminal investigation," Memphis city attorney Jennifer Sink told CNN.

"From now on, at least 13 officers will be disciplined," Sink said.

"Again, there could be more."

Five officers were criminally charged and will be arraigned on February 17 after being fired on January 20, and then charged with seven counts each.

Two others were relieved of their duties.

The Shelby County District Attorney's office has said the criminal investigation into the death of Tire Nichols is continuing and there could still be further criminal charges against those involved.
