Ski holidays: our advice to make life easier with toddlers

2023-02-07T06:20:39.906Z

Can we take advantage of winter sports with the children while sparing ourselves a mental and physical burden before departure and once there? Yes. The questions to ask yourself and our tips for a good holiday.

Before leaving: useful questions

No need to think big;

a station at the height of the little ones is enough.

The travel time and its arduousness are also to be taken into account.

What accommodation?

Hotel, apartment, chalet, club residence: the offer is wide.

Two selection criteria: your habits and your budget.

With toddlers, you can avoid the shopping/cooking duo, with an all-inclusive stay in clubs (MMV or Club Med type with children's clubs and entertainment) or hotels equipped with kids clubs.

Exit the stress of parking and shuttle schedules with accommodation at the foot of the slopes (to be geolocated before booking), near ski lessons.

Another question: book lessons early enough?

Preferable to have a place for the youngest.

At the ESF (220 schools), reservations are made online.

At Oxygène Ski (15 resorts), an exchange also allows you to be referred to accommodation and ad hoc ski equipment;

invaluable the ski shop service at home (La Plagne, Val d'Isère, Tignes).

What about clothes?

Count 200 € for a complete equipment.

But why not rent the outfit?

Practical: ski lockers

Ski lockers: comfort, like here in Les Gets.

Laura Office

When the accommodation is not at the foot of the slopes, the rental of lockers relieves you of the transport of equipment.

In Les Gets, 90 secure lockers for 4 places (in photo) are available (90 € for 6 days).

Some equipment rental companies also offer this service, Intersport Les Houches or Prosneige in Val d'Isère for example (€60 for 6 days, 1 to 3 pairs of skis).

Convenience: shopping delivery

At home in the Labellemontagne, Notre-Dame-de Bellecombe and La Bresse-Hohneck resorts, for example: breakfasts, picnics and dinners (3 formulas from €76/adult and €58/child per week).

A service also offered in the Pierre & Vacances and CGH residences (boxes delivered on Saturdays).

Practice the new “pedestrian drive” service from Carrefour Montagne in Les Arcs 1950: online ordering and collection on return from skiing, or delivery.

Good plan: children's clubs

The Galopins de La Rosière club welcomes children from 18 months to 12 years old.

ESF / La Rosiere

Useful for enjoying a moment of skiing for two.

Half or full day formulas (games, treasure hunts, creative workshops, etc.).

The Famille Plus resorts offer clubs and daycares.

These include La Norma, Super-Besse, Ax-les-Thermes and Villard-de-Lans/Corrençon (from 3 months);

Flaine, Courchevel, and Les Orres (from 6 months).

Another track, the “kids club” of the hotels: spaces of activities reserved for children.

Skiing while having fun

To book: the sled dog.

Quickly full like the kid and Baby sleigh in Pralognan.

Gilles Lansard

On fun trails: tunnels, arches, bumps and challenges to overcome while sliding.

Two tracks (green) themed Mickey in Val-Cenis/Lanslebourg for example, no less than four in Méribel.

In treasure hunt mode and clues on the treasure hunt of the Morzine-Les Gets area, "the good track" at Les Arcs and Sybelles Explor Games.

Activities to spot

Some are to be reserved before arriving at the resort;

frustration is avoided.

Like skiing or walking with eagles (Morzine) and walking through an illuminated forest with sound at nightfall (Alta Lumina in Les Gets).

Exclusives.

But there's no need to book sledging, the little ones' favorite after-ski activity;

there are safe tracks in all resorts.

Some are scripted: at Courchevel 1650 (Moriond Racing) and at Les Arcs (Mille 8).

Still energy?

Try the uphill activity in winter, snowtubing (tobogganing) in Val Thorens and Les Houches on the Ski Camp, or climb on a frozen adventure course (from 4 years old in Val d'Isère).

Certain activities are sometimes included or at a reduced rate in the package.

Relax with family

If the accommodation does not have a swimming pool, it is not forbidden to take a dip in an aqua-leisure centre: Le Board (brand new in Val Thorens), Aquamotion (Courchevel), Aquariaz (Avoriaz) for example.

And why not a spa, with baby?

At the Thermes de Saint-Gervais, time slots are reserved: 1 hour with 6 month-3 year olds and 2 hours with 3-12 year olds.

At the Deep Nature Spa in Belle Plagne, treat yourself to the "Family Spa" (aquatic area dedicated to families with children 4-14 years old) and a parent/child tandem massage from 6 years old).

Also a fallback solution in case of storm (or absence) of snow.

In-station entertainment

A party for children: Family Party every Tuesday afternoon at the Folie Douce in Les Arcs.

Sweet Madness

Each resort concocts a special school holiday programme.

In Flaine, on Wednesdays, the sky lights up with a ballet of 70 drones;

free like magic and circus shows, snowman contests and storytelling.

The Peyragudes resort is dedicating a special family week punctuated with entertainment (March 5-12).

At 2 Alpes, on Wednesdays (and Thursdays during the February holidays) it's snow groomer rides to discover the profession of snow groomer on the glacier.

Finally, the mascots also provide entertainment.

They cause a sensation in Les Sybelles at the top of Ouillon (Festi'Kids 11am-2.30pm), on holiday Thursdays: to dance with your feet in the snow and leave with a souvenir photo.

Undoubtedly the photo of a successful ski holiday.
