The Arab Writers Union decided to stop all its cultural activities and periodic meetings until further notice, with all its mechanisms in the branches and the center to serve those affected by the earthquake that hit Syria.
The federation also took several decisions to facilitate its members’ role in solidarity and cooperation with the victims of the earthquake. The federation directed its branches in the governorates to open the branch headquarters for those affected by the earthquake, to provide temporary accommodation and the necessary services, and to communicate with doctors from the federation’s members in the governorates to come to the branch headquarters to secure health care. If necessary.
The federation decided to open the door for financial or in-kind donations to its members and others, based on an official receipt from the center and branches, and to present it to those affected.
The federation called for following up on the situation of the families of its members affected by the earthquake and informing the central follow-up committee of their situation. It also called on the members of the Syrian youth team in each branch to contribute to providing aid.
The Union formed a central follow-up committee consisting of the President of the Union of Arab Writers, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, the Vice-President of the Union, Tawfiq Ahmed, and the Director of the Cultural Activity Department, Al-Arqam Al-Zoubi.
