The Jerusalem Municipality demands the destruction of the "New Al Aqsa Mosque", the residents warn of clashes - voila! news

The mosque located in the neighborhood of Beit Safafa got its name due to the addition of the illegal construction on top of it, which gives it the appearance of the Dome of the Rock. Although allegations of selective enforcement and discrimination against the Arab public have been made against it, the municipality is fortifying itself in the position to destroy the building and accuses of trying to politicize the legal process

About a year after the Jerusalem municipality decided to destroy the "new golden dome" in Beit Tzafafa, and months after claims of selective enforcement and discrimination were made against it - it rejects the claims and demands: "The mosque dome must be destroyed."

For decades, a 700-meter mosque, named "Abd al-Rahman", has been standing on its end, one of four Muslim prayer centers in Beit Safafa in Jerusalem.

Over the years, it has become obsolete and requires a thorough renovation.

According to the lawsuit, nearly six years ago they began to build an additional floor with concrete walls with stone coatings without a permit, and above the floor they built a five-meter high addition and placed iron constructions on top of it.

The engineering description sounds quite ordinary, but when you look at the planned irons - you get an extraordinary picture: a huge golden dome, which is almost completely similar to the golden dome above the head of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

At certain angles it is not even possible to distinguish that it is a different dome.

If so, it is not surprising that it was named "the new golden dome" - and any attempt to interfere with the construction (or demolition) will attract many reactions.

In line with the Jerusalem Municipality's fight against illegal construction, especially in the east of the city, and under pressure from right-wing organizations in the city - a demolition order was submitted to the Court of Local Affairs in Jerusalem.

The residents of the village were surprised by the municipality's demand and said that it is a very quiet neighborhood, and added: "The demolition could cause unnecessary conflicts and unnecessary chaos. We will work to prevent the demolition of this important mosque at all costs."

It is not certain that the identical construction is accidental.

Indeed, the lawyers who represent the opponents of the demolition submitted several claims to the court against the municipality.

They claimed that it was selective enforcement, discrimination against the Arab public in the city and that the court was meddling in an arena that is not legal.

They also claimed that a long time passed between the construction and the request for demolition - which raises questions about the interest in fact.

The local committee for planning and building in Jerusalem responded to the claims in its own letter to the court: Regarding the claim about the selective enforcement between the prayer institutions in the city - it presented a list of ten synagogues that were destroyed in the last ten years, among others in the neighborhoods of Gila, Ramot and Givat Shaul in the west of the city.

And they said: "An attempt to imply a different attitude of the applicant to religious institutions without any fundamentally wrong basis, is irrelevant, defiant and misleading."

They also added that the opponents want to politicize the legal process.

In response to the long time it took to submit the request, they attacked the municipality and presented 14 different cases and meetings held over the years between representatives of the municipality and others and workers and those responsible for the place.

Also, the demand from the court for some kind of involvement in the issue because it is not a legal arena - was rejected outright.

  • The wound of the Neve Ya'akov neighborhood has not yet healed, but the heart has opened: "We received a hug from the whole country"

  • The smart test that detects an increased risk of having a stroke - now on sale

The ball is now in the hands of the court, which will have to decide the issue.

If the ball returns to the Jerusalem municipality again, it will be the one who will have to decide whether to carry out the demolition.

During the time of Minister Amr Bar Lev, the police postponed the date following the months of Ramadan - so as not to shock the area, but in view of the events of the last two weeks and the demand of the Minister of National Security Ben Gabir to "increase the rate of demolitions" - it is not certain that the mosque will not be included in the list of orders that are carried out at any cost .

In any case, it is not certain that the identical construction is accidental.

And in order for the authorities in the State of Israel to succeed in completing the job, they will have to find very creative solutions to prevent those with interests in the city from taking a picture of Israeli tractors destroying the "Golden Dome" in Jerusalem.
