Within the emergency response plan to deal with the repercussions of the earthquake that hit Syria at dawn yesterday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, discussed today with representatives of international organizations working within the education sector mechanisms of joint cooperation to overcome its effects from the reality of the damaged school buildings, their needs and the emergency response to the repercussions of the earthquake, and to ensure the continuity of the educational process .

During the meeting that was held today in the Ministry's building, both physically and virtually, Tabaa stressed the importance of intensifying efforts and organizing them within an executive action plan to assist and support the governorates affected by the earthquake, noting that 168 damaged schools have been counted so far, which requires a long rehabilitation process with the possibility of using other schools. temporarily until you fully recover.

The Minister of Education pointed out that some schools in Aleppo, Lattakia, and Hama have been designated as shelters for those affected, and that students and their families need many requirements, especially food and various supplies and medicines to continue their lives, explaining that the Ministry has established an operations room to follow up on the repercussions of the earthquake, and to identify a list of damaged schools and share them with partner international organizations. To provide assistance and support in coordination with the Ministry in this field.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Committee of the Red Cross in Syria, the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Development Programme, the Adventist Development Agency, First Aid International, the Italian Terre des Hommes, and the Avsi, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Beirut Regional Office and the Damascus Office.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Syria, the Norwegian Refugee Council, the Finnish Relief Organization, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Association for Excellence, the French Islamic Organization and the United Nations Population Fund participated in the virtual meeting.
