Why did the Assembly have fewer novices in 2022?

DECRYPTION – A study by the Institute of Public Policy highlights the decrease in the number of new elected officials, as well as the return of elected workers or employees thanks, almost exclusively to the LFI and RN groups.


In line with Emmanuel Macron's victory in the presidential election, the 2017 legislative campaign was organized around criticism of "political professionals".

The Republic on the move, had brought in 72% of first-time deputies.

In this XVIth legislature, the situation has changed a lot: the political novices have disappeared, in any case on the benches of the majority.

But, thanks to LFI and the RN, the Assembly again has elected members from the working classes, who had almost entirely disappeared.

RN and LFI: 91% of popular deputies

The share of executives and higher intellectual professions is down slightly (50% in 2022 compared to 55% in 2017), as is that of artisans, traders and business leaders (9% compared to 11%).

But these groups remain predominant.

we keep a parliament of the middle and upper classes.
