Agnès Bénassy-Quéré, Chief Economist of the Treasury since June 2020 is the new Deputy Governor of the Banque de France.
She will take up her position
“from February 27, 2023”
, specifies the report of the Council of Ministers of this day.
She replaces Sylvie Goulard in this position, who
"wanted to join the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which is her original administration, to continue her recognized European and international commitment"
, explained the institution at the beginning of December.
Denis Beau, Senior Deputy Governor, continues his mission.

The eminent French economist gets on just as well with the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, as with the Governor of the Banque de France, François Villeroy de Galhau.
She is also, among other functions, already a member of the General Council of the Banque de France.

Agnès Bénassy-Quéré is a graduate of ESCP Business School, she has a doctorate in economics. Her thesis defended in 1992 at the University of Paris-Dauphine concerns “Determination of exchange rates in a multinational macroeconomic model”.
Currently on leave from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the Paris School of Economics where she is Professor of Economics, she received the first prize for the best young economist in France in 2000 with Bruno Amable.
The one who wrote a column on France Culture for a few years was also deputy president of the Economic Analysis Council between 2012 and 2018. Before joining the Treasury, she was a member of the High Council for Financial Stability, the Council for Compulsory Levies , the National Productivity Council and the Franco-German Economic Analysis Council.
She is also a member of the Circle of Economists.
