Alberto Fernández summoned the political table of the Frente de Todos, but neither Cristina nor Máximo Kirchner will attend

2023-02-08T00:56:03.645Z

The structure will meet on Thursday the 16th. Jorge Capitanich admitted that the PASO can no longer be suspended.

It was almost a mirror game.

Early on, from Kirchnerism they came out to admit that from an institutional point of view -in truth, not from a political point of view either because the ruling party does not have the votes in Congress-

it is no longer viable

to suspend the primary elections this year, a measure that until now has been promoted by K. and governors that orbit around

Cristina Kirchner

.

Just a few hours later,

Alberto Fernández , in his capacity as president of the Justicialista Party, convened the

Frente de Todos

(FdT) political table for Thursday, February 16,

with the aim of beginning to design the party strategy for the upcoming elections. .

Despite pressure from the different tribes of the ruling party, Fernández did not accept a possible suspension of the PASO, scheduled for August of this year.

What's more: on Monday the President affirmed that

"nobody"

told him that he cannot stand for re-election in the next elections and that the ruling party candidate will emerge from a STEP.

"There is no need to fear the opinion of the people," he argued.

This Tuesday, the governor of Chaco, the Christian Jorge Capitanich

, came out to acknowledge that it is too late to try to suspend the primaries.

“The positions regarding the PASO yes or no issue were part of the 2022 discussion process, but today there is no reasonable institutional feasibility that would allow them to be suspended.

You have to think that the two options between STEP and no STEP is more or less resolved due to the factual impossibility of doing it now," stressed the provincial president, who until now had been one of the biggest promoters of winning the primaries.

Capitanich also maintained, in radio statements: "We have to have strong PASS in order to guarantee that our candidates

are representative enough to win in the first round

."

In Peronism there are not too many registered in the presidential race.

Alberto Fernández is one.

Another who sounds like a possible candidate for Kirchnerism is the Minister of the Interior, the camporista

Eduardo "Wado" De Pedro

.

Sergio Massa

insists that this year he will not make the attempt, although we will have to see.

A governor could also appear on the horizon, like Capitanich himself, who never hid his aspirations.

Capitanich stressed the importance of “winning in the first round”.

This is something key in the strategy of Peronism to retain power.

The latest polls show that the Frente de Todos borders 30 points in voting intention for the primaries, a handful less than Together for Change.

With those numbers, and with the current economic scenario, if they don't already win in the first round, it will be difficult for them to prevail in a possible ballot.

Announcement

In this context, this Tuesday Fernández convened for next Thursday, February 16 at the national headquarters of the Justicialista Party on Matheu street, the first meeting of the "political table" of the Frente de Todos.

This structure should define the electoral strategy of the Frente de Todos and the rules for a possible internal competition for this year's candidacies.

The President does not accept that this table be used to discuss the course of his management, as the cristicamporismo claims.

The K also dislikes the breadth of the call for the formation of this space, where there will be, in addition to representatives of the President, governors, mayors, leaders of the Renovation Front, and heads of the CGT and social organizations.

Considering themselves majority partners in the ruling coalition, they were pushing for a smaller table.

La Cámpora will be represented at the meeting on Thursday the 16th, possibly by Wado de Pedro and “Cuervo” Larroque.

Máximo Kirchner will not go;

Neither did his mother.

In the midst of internal disputes, Capitanich called on Tuesday to "work to strengthen the different expressions" of the FdT, in addition to considering that the ruling coalition must build "a leadership that allows decisions to be made to solve two distressing problems: lowering inflation and improve the salary.
