It will be produced by Sam Raimi ('Spider-Man') and Glen Powell ('Top Gun: Maverick') will play Peter Lanzani. We interviewed Cohn.

Anthony Hopkins

and Glen Powell (

Top Gun: Maverick

) will be Dady Brieva and Peter Lanzani in the Hollywood remake of

4x4

, by Argentinean Mariano Cohn, which will be titled

Locked

(Locked would be the literal translation), and will be produced by none other than Sam Raimi, director from the first

Spider-Man

trilogy

, and from

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

.

The film, released on 4/4/2019, centers on a thief, who breaks into a super modern SUV, and gets trapped in the car.

Communication with the outside only has it with the owner of the vehicle.

It remains to define who will take the role that Luis Brandoni did - the already retired mediator, who collaborates with the police in the place.

We spoke with Mariano Cohn to find out everything about this Hollywood project.

Welshman Anthony Hopkins, winner of two Oscars, will be the owner of the 4x4.

-When did the negotiation begin?

-It was almost a year ago, but they were still unclear on the cast.

Yes, there was an interested producer, who had loved the film.

We started talking, they made an adaptation and a few days ago they confirmed that the cast had been closed.

-You spoke, I suppose, with Sam Raimi.

-Yes, with Gastón Duprat (Cohn's partner and co-author of the script for

4x4

) we had been talking with the producers, San Raimi among them.

Peter Lanzani was the thief in the original Mariano Cohn film.

And it's not the first remake

-They had already made a remake in Brazil.

Yes, and also in India.

-Do you see Glen Powell with the Boca shirt, like Peter had?

-The rights would have to be processed, the Boca fans kill me, they already wanted to kill me when we released it here, I almost had to go into exile, hahaha.

The actions will move from Buenos Aires to Los Angeles, and both Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat will travel there when filming begins.

"It will be for the middle of the year, beginning of the second semester," says Cohn.

The way is to release it in the course of 2024.

-You and Gastón Duprat are listed as executive producers.

What does it mean?

-That we participated in various instances, from the moment the idea of making the remake arose, advising at the time of writing the new script, of the adaptation, and being partners in the film.

-Did you talk to Glen Powell?

-No, not yet.

We have a Zoom with him scheduled for next week.

When the concrete possibility of Hopkins and Powell taking the lead roles arose, we did several Zooms with Anthony.

As we always do, as we did with (Robert) De Niro for the series

Nada

(which will premiere in the second half of this year on Star+).

Glen Powell at the recent Critic's Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

He acted alongside Tom Cruise in "Top Gun: Maverick."

They are sharp actors, very old school, who want to talk about the script.

The director of the remake was also involved, and all of that has to do with executive production.

-What was left of the talk with Anthony Hopkins?

-Hopkins had already seen

Official Competition

, which he loved.

When we spoke he told us that he liked how Antonio Banderas was (they were castmates in

The Mask of Zorro

-1998-).

“I never saw Antonio so well as in your film.

He seemed very avant garde to me, very creative, ”he told us.

“Anthony knew that we had filmed with De Niro -continues Cohn-, and he told us 'I'm interested in going to film in Buenos Aires', but it's not this project.

Can you imagine the second part of Nada, with Anthony Hopkins?”, the director daydreams and laughs.

In full makeup, during the filming of "4x4", Lanzani and Dady Brieva.

Did the script change a lot?

-And, there are differences, it has been updated.

The film is super-adapted, the script is more anabolic, more muscular, more Hollywood, a little more technological with the vehicle, with the features of the car.

Four years have passed...

-How was the sale of the script rights?

-The rights options were only for six months, short options, because the film had many interested parties.

We and Gastón are signed by CAA, our agency in the United States, and they, in addition to offering you jobs or getting resources to make series or movies, also represent the remake rights.

And this was a proposal that came from them, and they began to bring the parties together.

-Did you know David Yarovesky, who will direct the remake?

-I saw a movie he made on Netflix,

Nightbooks

,

a

children's horror film, produced by Sam Raimi, but he is a genre director.

On the other hand, it emerged that there was a meeting on the outskirts of Milan, in which the Argentines participated along with Sam Raimi and Luca Guadagnino, the director of

Call me by your name

, winner of the Silver Lion in Venice this year for best director for

Hasta the bones

).

The award was presented to him by Mariano Cohn, who was a member of the Jury of the Mostra.

The meeting would have been in the villa that the Italian has there, on the outskirts of Milan, and a new project began to be considered: a spin-off of a superhero, to make a series together, between Sam Raimi, Cohn and Duprat.
