The storm Barbara left Israel today (Wednesday) after bringing with it very strong winds with gusts of more than 100 km/h, large amounts of rain and snow in the northern mountains and the peaks of the central mountains. In some places extremely high speeds were measured, for example in Safed Mount Canaan a speed was measured A maximum wind of 87 km/h and a maximum gust of 119 km/h, in the cliffs a wind speed of 78 km/h and a maximum gust of 113 km/h.

The greatest amounts of rain fell in the central mountains and the northern lowlands, where 100 to 150 mm were measured .

In the north of the Golan and the upper Galilee, impressive amounts of 80 to 110 mm were measured and in the lower Galilee, in the south of the Golan, in the northern valleys, 40 to 70 mm were measured.

In the northern and central coastal plain, 30 to 50 mm were measured and larger amounts of 60 to 90 mm were measured in the southern and northern coastal plain surrounding Gaza.

In the northwest of the Negev, in the Yatir region and the Bashur region, 30 to 50 mm fell and the amount of rain decreased to the south.

The rains that fell in the storm and the heavy precipitation since the end of January have considerably reduced the deficit in the rain that existed before, so that in many parts of the country the accumulated amounts of rain since the beginning of the season reach 80% to 90% of the average for the corresponding period.

There are places where the amounts are close to the average, and even exceed it, such as the Judean Mountains, the south of the coastal plain and the east of the Jezreel Valley.

Snow fell mainly in the northern mountains and in the higher parts of the central mountains.

A lot of snow fell in Hermon and according to reports from the website, its depth reaches 1.5 meters in the lower cable car and more than two meters in the upper cable car.

In the north of the Golan, the snow depth reached 5 to 10 cm and on the high peaks of the Golan to about 20 cm and more.

On Mount Miron, about 10 cm fell, on other peaks in the Galilee about 3 to 5 cm.

Meanwhile, the meteorological service is already preparing for the next storm, and as part of the European project to name significant storms, the next extreme weather event will be called "Kleon".

Each weather event that is expected to be significant receives a name from a predetermined list, and consists of a combination of Greek, Cypriot and Israeli names, in ABC order and once a female name, then a male one.

The weather tomorrow is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy, and it is expected to rain locally, mostly light, in the north of the country and in the center.

In the morning, light snow is still possible in the northern mountains, and it will be colder than usual.

On Friday, there will be an increase in temperatures, but they will still be lower than normal for the season.

On Saturday, there will be no noticeable change in temperatures, and in the morning, strong easterly winds will blow in the northern mountains.
