Aziza and Hassan Mansour from Wolfratshausen have relatives in Gaziantep.

The earthquake in Turkey and Syria has destroyed large parts of the city.

Wolfratshausen – There were hours of worry.

Aziza, 24, tried desperately to reach her pregnant sister.

Aziza had heard about the severe earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

The epicenter of the accident was near the city of Gaziantep - the home of many relatives of the young Syrian who lives in Wolfratshausen.

The young woman was only able to breathe a sigh of relief hours later: her sister had left her mobile phone in the apartment when she fled the disaster with her husband and children.

Unhurt, "fortunately," says Aziza.

Hours of fear: The Wolfratshauser family has relatives in Gaziantep

In the meantime, she has received many photos from Gaziantep on her mobile phone.

These are images that go around the world.

They show destroyed houses, desperate people and ruins where entire settlements stood just a few days ago.

The severe earthquakes in the border region of Turkey and Syria wreaked havoc.

Hassan Mansour and his wife Aziza keep in touch with their relatives in the disaster area.

The family of the two Syrians lost a lot in the rubble.

For the past few nights, Aziza's sisters - one is pregnant - have slept in tents in a forest.

"The houses are not safe," explains Hassan.

When Aziza's sister discovered the first cracks in the walls, she left the apartment and the city, seeking shelter in small villages with small houses.

She left a lot behind.

Wolfratshauser visited Gaziantep: City of millions shaken by earthquake

Until a few days ago, Hassan and Aziza and their three children were still in Gaziantep, the city of over a million inhabitants in southern Turkey.

They wanted to visit relatives they hadn't seen in eight years.

The two of them lived in the city in south-east Anatolia until 2014, when they came to Germany.

"People weren't doing very well even before the earthquake," says Hassan.

Many Syrians living in the Turkish city have great financial worries.

The rents are high and the wages for their work are meager.

Hassan and Aziza have repeatedly supported their relatives with money.

Hassan and Aziza have been living in Germany for years - they also support relatives with their wages

Hassan has found work in Germany, the couple makes ends meet so well without any allowances that every few months something is left over for the large family in Gaziantep.

However, their savings are far from sufficient to support Aziza's sisters now.

"You will need a lot," says Hassan.

Much more than the Wolfratshausen couple can give.

The two would like to collect donations and send them to the families who are holding out in villages, tents or large central emergency camps and fear for their future.

They need money for food, for clothes, for many supposedly everyday things.

Hassan and Aziza are not only concerned with their relatives: Many Syrians who live in Wolfratshausen and the surrounding area have families in the disaster area.

Aid group collects donations for earthquake victims

The asylum helpers' group wants to collect donations for them, as the director Ines Lobenstein told our newspaper.

"The fate affects us." In the Broenner jeweler's shop on the Obermarkt and at the neighborhood help "Bürger für Bürger" there are piggy banks for the earthquake victims.

Donors can also send an email to asylinwor@icloud.com.
