A swimming pool project in the south-west of the Nantes conurbation, which has become a sea serpent since the early 1990s, should finally materialize.

Unless there is a last-minute reversal, it should be voted on by elected officials in the metropolitan council this Friday.

Enough to offer a breath of fresh air to the mayors of several municipalities who waded through the meanders of tight budgets.

To get their heads above water, Nantes Métropole came to the rescue.

In fact, the community has offered to take charge of the project management and operation of the future equipment, which should be built in Bouaye (Loire-Atlantique), declaring

it “of metropolitan interest”

.

A choice of

"solidarity"

aimed at seven municipalities (Bouaye, Brains, Le Pellerin, Saint-Aignan de Grand Lieu, Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau, La Montagne and Saint-Léger-les-Vignes) so that they can "

respond to the obligation to allow the 4000 children of the schools of the south-west pole to learn to swim"

.

For the time being, these students must be content with conditions deemed

“unsatisfactory”

via in particular

“mobile summer pools”

.

If better is to come, however, we will have to wait a little longer.

Two basins

The equipment, estimated at 10 million euros, should be delivered

"between 2027 or 2028"

according to Nantes Métropole.

It should be located in the ZAC des Ormeaux, near the Parc de la Mévellière, in Bouaye.

The swimming pool

"will have a 25-meter pool and six 375 m² water lines (large bath) and a small learning pool (small bath)"

, specifies the community.

If its vocation is school and associative,

“it will be open to individual swimmers”

.

On the other hand, it will not be a space for family leisure.

"It will only be a swimming pool, without play area, in a spirit of financial and energy sobriety"

, mentions Nantes Métropole.

The seven municipalities concerned by the project will also put their hands in their pockets to ensure the operation of the swimming pool.

They will contribute

“according to school uses”

and the number of slots used by pupils enrolled in schools in their territory.

Subsidies should also be requested from several partners (Department, State, Ademe).
