Nice is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its Carnival from February 10 to 26, 2023. With the theme of "Treasures of the World", the city intends to take full advantage of its recent inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.


It is said to be one of the most beautiful carnivals in the world.

Competing straightforwardly with that of Venice or Rio, whose creation it would have inspired at the end of the 19th century.

This year, the Nice carnival is celebrating its 150th anniversary, with some editions canceled during the two world wars and the Covid epidemic.

This burlesque and colorful event which brings together some 200,000 spectators each year will be held on the theme of "Treasures of the world", a way to honor the distinction recently received by the city of Nice, listed as a World Heritage Site. Unesco.

The 2023 edition lasts 15 days, from Friday February 10 to Sunday February 26 with highlights (corsi, flower battles) every Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday as well as Sunday February 26.

The appointments not to be missed

The Grand Parade of 150 years

This is the kick-off of these two weeks of festivities.

The King opens the parade with great pomp on a float 16 meters long and 17 meters high.

After all these years, its cardboard aspect remains, but the materials and techniques have gained in modernity.

Her costume alone required 200 yards of fabric.

In its wake, 15 floats around which will stroll artistic troupes of dancers, musicians and performers from all over the world to celebrate their cultures and traditions in Nice.

A magical and enchanting spectacle, the illuminated corso sets off from Place Masséna at nightfall.

The Battle of the Flowers

The battle of flowers (here mimosa) is a particularity of the Nice carnival.

A festival of colors and scents.

The Flower Battles of Nice carnival are a must in these winter processions and have largely contributed to the influence of the city since the end of the 19th century.

It was the poet gardener Alphonse Karr, who gave his name to a chic artery in the city, who wanted the throwing of flowers to replace those of confetti.

Closing ceremony

A veritable acme of great popular raout, the King returns to his final resting place each year in a staging organized by local associations and folk groups.

This year we will find the Parada Nissarda and the Carnavaliers troupes, which will meet not far from the Théâtre de Verdure.

All you have to do is turn around to see arriving in the distance, in the Baie des Anges, a parade of Pointus who have come to escort the King of the "Treasures of the World" in a last guard of honor.

A fireworks display will close this anniversary.

Come in disguise

Tradition obliges, people in full disguise will be able to attend the illuminated Carnival Corsi for free in the pedestrian areas (no seats in the stands) within the limits of available seats.
