The Constitution, Law and Justice Committee met today (Wednesday) once again to discuss the articles of reform in the legal system promoted by the government.
The committee, chaired by MK Simcha Rothman, focused on the composition of the committee for selecting judges and the High Court of Justice not canceling fundamental laws - but the votes were postponed until next Monday.
Members of the Knesset from the opposition in the committee used the full time given to them to speak against the reform and thus ended the discussion.
The vote on an amendment to the Knesset's statutes regarding the selection of representatives of the committee for the selection of judges was also postponed until next week.
"There is nothing that will make it more likely that we will be able to face the challenges and all this nation will come in peace if we settle the matter of electing the judges that we are dealing with," said Rothman at the beginning of the committee.
He came out against opposition members who interrupted the discussion and said: "The fact that you came to blow up the discussion is very clear and I will not let you do that."
According to Rothman's latest proposal, the committee for the selection of judges will have nine members but the coalition will have a majority.
It will consist of three ministers, one of whom is the Minister of Justice, three judges, including the President of the Supreme Court, and three members of the Knesset, one of whom is the chairman of the Constitution Committee.
The votes were rejected.

According to Rothman, one representative of each of the authorities must be a woman, the two ministers will be chosen by the government, the two judges are retired judges and are chosen by consensus by the Minister of Justice and the Supreme President, one MK must be from the opposition and will be chosen by the members of the opposition and the MK The second will be chosen by the Speaker of the Knesset.
Last week, the Legal Advisor of the Constitutional Committee, Gur Blay, published an opinion according to which if the legal revolution is approved by the Knesset, it should only be applied from the next Knesset and not immediately. "The proposed amendment changes the balance of power between the authorities, and gives The majority of the coalition and the executive branch have considerable power," he wrote in the opinion. "These things are supposed to be in relation to the change in the composition of the committee for the selection of judges and the determination of the succession order that allows the majority of the coalition to 'immunize' legislation from judicial review."
As part of the reform, promoted by Justice Minister Yariv Levin, the government intends to enact a superseding clause with a majority of 61 members of the Knesset, abolish the reason for reasonableness, change the members of the committee for selecting judges and weaken the legal advisers.
The revolution provoked public criticism, including from legal experts, for fear of harming the balance between the authorities, and ignited protests throughout the country.
