Dr. Ran Nof, a seismologist at the Israel Geological Survey, commented this morning (Thursday) on the three earthquakes that were felt in Israel in the last day and said that "we can use these earthquakes as a warning sign, to realize that such an earthquake can occur in our region.
It won't be as strong as in Turkey, but still significant, which should cause damage - and we need to prepare for it." He said these things in an interview for "Seva Tshea" with Guy Peleg and Nisim Mashal on 103FM.
According to Nof, there is not necessarily a direct connection between the powerful earthquake that occurred in Turkey and caused more than 15 thousand deaths and the noises in Israel.
"The entire Earth's crust is made up of tectonic plates, these plates move and are connected to each other," he explained.
"Distant earthquakes can affect local earthquakes and large areas around them and change the field of forces. They change the tension between the tectonic plates. Israel sits along the Dead Sea rift, a tectonic boundary between plates. This is not a direct connection, but the entire field of forces has undergone a change And now it's getting back together."
He also clarified that there is no way to determine whether the recent earthquakes indicate a powerful and deadly noise.
"We cannot determine, the systems are too complex for us to be able to say something like that at this stage," Nof said.
"We do know that Israel is in an area with the potential for a strong earthquake, that hasn't changed. We've known that for a long time."

Meanwhile, four days after the disaster, the death toll in Turkey and Syria has already crossed 15,000.
Many are still buried under the rubble and their families are desperate for skilled forces to reach out and rescue them.
The Home Front Command delegation together with the Rescue Union labored for long hours yesterday trying to rescue two people trapped under an eight-story building that collapsed.
Voices were heard from inside, then clicks, then stopped.
Every time the rescuers thought that there was an answer, they asked everyone to be quiet, even in the nearby buildings where rescuers are working, there are many of them.
An engineer who came from Israel sat with family members and neighbors and together they drew the floor plan.
They tried to dig a hole, but it didn't work, they didn't give up and continued their efforts even during the night.
What do you do during an earthquake in Israel?
If you are able to get out of the building in a few seconds - do so, and move away to an open area.
If you don't have this option, enter the MMD and leave the door and windows open. Alternatively, go to the stairwell and continue down until you exit the building.
If you cannot act in any of the above options - sit in an inner corner of the room or under a heavy piece of furniture, and protect your head with your hands.
Please note: Do not use the elevator during or after the earthquake.
If you are not inside a building, stay in the open and stay away from buildings, trees, power cables and items that could fall and endanger you.
If you are in the middle of a car ride, pull over and wait for the shaking to stop.
Also, avoid stopping under a bridge or on an interchange.
If you are staying near the beach, stay at least a kilometer away from the beach.
This, due to fear of a tsunami.
If you are unable to leave the beach area, go up to the fourth floor or higher of a nearby building.
