Seven hectares of vegetation have already gone up in smoke in La Brigue (Alpes-Maritimes), in the Roya valley.
The fire broke out late Wednesday afternoon, around 6:30 p.m.
The reasons for the fire outbreak are not yet known.
A simple spark would have been enough to start the flames and the climatic conditions spread them.
Despite cool temperatures, a strong east blows in the department and in particular in the reliefs, which also suffer from a water deficit (this is the phenomenon of "winter fires").
The area is difficult to access, which does not facilitate the action of the firefighters.
75 firefighters were deployed on Wednesday evening and fought the flames all night.
Their intervention made it possible to
"limit the spread of the fire, however, it remains in free evolution"
, specifies the SDIS of the Alpes-Maritimes.
